I purchaced this lamp to go in my modern-style bedroom with clean lines. I was very disappointed yesterday when it arrived and I opened it to find that it is nothing more than crudely finished 2x4 in a "U" shape. The piece is extremely grainy and the surface rough. I could buy the materials at ****** for under $$ and build in 30 minutes. Very disappointed!

This lamp was perfect for its intended use which is to sit on a slim table in a dark hallway at the top of our stairs. I am using a LED bulb so that it doesn't get too hot, but that is not a requirement. It is left on 24-7 and it looks great.

We have a glass/steel set of lamps in the first bedroom, so for the second bedroom we wanted different material, and something that would be stylish and functional at the same time. After quite a bit of search, we took the risk and ordered two of Zen Lamps. It has been a year now, we are very happy with the purchase, and got a lot of compliments from the guests. The lamps are simple/rustic, and yet chic. The quality is great, and are easy to clean. The switch is located on the cord (which we arranged to rest on the nightstand), so it is much easier to find it in the darkness as opposed to switches located near the bulb. A note to bed readers - the light is really soft (40 watt max), so the lamp is definitely not for reading. Other than that, I would recommend it to friends.

The beauty of this lamp is it's simplicity and understated elegance. The white shade really diffuses the light so you can't see a bulb, even the twisty cfl's. The wood color is represented well in the photo, a medium-dark finish. I only wish they made a similar floor lamp.
