This tray sits on my ottoman/coffee table and is perfect for bringing snacks, drinks, or a dinner for two (on two medium sized plates with two drinks), from kitchen to ottoman/coffee table and ensures things remain stable on my ottoman/coffee table. Not sure of the materials of which it is made but for my purposes, it does the job. It doesn't have a really high-end look (i.e, like a silver tray), so if you're looking for something to impress, not sure this will do it for you. However, it doesn't look cheap either. Much classier than a plastic tray. Looks nicer than some wood trays I've seen on line. It has a "wood-look" external construction (i.e., on the outside) with a crocodile skin-like surface (again, not sure if it's real or not) on the inside surface. This gives it a unique look. I would definitely not put a hot pot on this or even a hot teapot without a trivet on it. Overall, for what I use this for and the price I paid for it, I am really very pleased.
